Born 1973, in Nicosia, Cyprus.

Read Law at the University of Bristol (UK).

Holds a postgraduate diploma in Contemporary Diplomacy from the University of Malta.  

Joined the Foreign Service of the Republic of Cyprus in November 1999 and has previously served in the following postings abroad:


2000-2002 Second Secretary/Consul, Embassy of Cyprus in Helsinki, Finland
2003-2007 Consul General, Consulate General of Cyprus in Saint Petersburg, Russia
2007-2009 Deputy Permanent Representative, Permanent Representation of Cyprus to the Council of Europe, in Strasbourg, France
2011-2014 Deputy Chief of Mission and Chargé d’ affaires ad interim, Cyprus Embassy in Copenhagen, Denmark
2014-2018 Deputy Permanent Representative, Permanent Mission of Cyprus to the United Nations Office at Geneva and other International Organisations in Switzerland


In between, held positions at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Nicosia as desk officer for Eastern Europe, the Caucasus and Central Asia at the Political Division – Bilateral Affairs (1999-2000), as liaison officer in relation to Cyprus Question affairs at the Minister’s Office (2002-2003), and as Deputy Director of the Schengen and Consular Affairs Division (2009-10).

From September 2018 until January 2022, held the post of Spokesperon for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, serving concurrently from August 2019 as Director of the Office of the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Apart from Greek (mother-tongue), speaks English and Russian.

Married to Aino Haapala-Samuel, with two sons.
