The High Commissioner of the Republic of Cyprus to the Republic of Namibia presents his credentials

The new High Commissioner of the Republic of Cyprus to the Republic of Namibia Mr Antonis Mandritis presented his credentials to the President of the country, Dr Hage G. Geingob. at a ceremony held on 19 October at the Presidential Palace in Windhoek.

During the ceremony, Mr Mandritis conveyed to the President of Namibia, the heartfelt greetings of the President of the Republic Mr Nikos Christodoulides and the people of Cyprus, as well as their wishes for the prosperity of the people of the country.

In a meeting that followed, both President Geingob and the High Commissioner referred to the very good level of bilateral relations and cooperation between the two countries based on mutual respect, as well as to the determination to further strengthen and reinforce them.

The High Commissioner briefed President Geingob on the latest developments in the Cyprus question and the ongoing efforts to find a just and viable solution. In this context, the President of Namibia expressed his country's commitment to international legality, and support in the efforts to find a solution to the Cyprus question, in accordance to international law and the UN Charter.

During the meeting, the President of Namibia expressed his gratitude for Cyprus', historical and long-standing, support in Namibia's struggle for independence. Reference was also made to the fact that both countries are members of the Commonwealth, and remain committed to international legality, in accordance to international law and the UN Charter. In this context, the need to strengthen cooperation in the context of international fora, such as the UN and the Commonwealth, was highlighted.

During his stay in Namibia, the High Commissioner held a series of meeting with officials, in the presence of the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Cyprus in Namibia, Mr Savvas Ioannou Savva. Mr Madritis’ meetings included the Vice President of Namibia, the Minister of Labour, Industrial Relations and Employment Creation, the Minister of Tourism, Environment and Forestry, the Governor of the Erongo Province, as well as members of the country’s parliament.
