12 Dec. 2020 - New Ambassador of Cyprus to Serbia, Demetrios A. Theophylactou, presents Credentials



The new Ambassador of Cyprus in Belgrade, Mr. Demetrios A. Theophylactou, presented yesterday his Credentials to the President of the Republic of Serbia, Mr. Aleksandar Vučić.

Conveying cordial greetings from the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr. Nikos Anastasiades, the new Ambassador underlined the great importance that Cyprus attaches to the continued enhancement of bilateral relations with Serbia, adding that he will work tirelessly to further strengthen the traditionally close and friendly ties between the two countries.

Ambassador Theophylactou also expressed appreciation for Belgrade’s steadfast support over the years to efforts aimed at reaching a just and viable solution to the Cyprus problem, based on International Law and the relevant UN Security Council resolutions.

In his response, President Vučić, asked the Ambassador to convey his personal wishes and cordial greetings to President Anastasiades, and expressed hope that circumstances would soon allow him to host the latter in Belgrade for a session of the High Council for Cooperation between Serbia and Cyprus, as an opportunity to further enhance Serbian-Cypriot cooperation.

The President also thanked Cyprus for its continued support to Serbia, stressing the appreciation of the Government and the Serbian people for Cyprus’s stance in relation to the issue of Kosovo and Metohija, as well as for the consistent support of Nicosia towards his country's accession perspective to the European Union.
