Visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs to in Ramallah

In light of the worrisome developments in the Middle East, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr Constantinos Kombos travelled today, Monday, 30 October 2023, from Amman to Ramallah for contacts with Palestinian officials.

Mr Kombos met with the Palestinian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Riad Malki, and other officials of the Palestinian Authority, with whom he discussed the need to avoid a regional escalation of the crisis, and to address the urgent humanitarian needs of civilians.

In this context, Cyprus’ initiative to develop a safe, regulated and sustainable maritime humanitarian corridor from Cyprus to Gaza was discussed.

A significant financial assistance by the Republic of Cyprus to the Palestinians was also announced, and the importance of continued humanitarian assistance from the EU was highlighted.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs reaffirmed Cyprus' principled position for the need to resume the peace process in the Middle East for a two-state solution, based on the relevant United Nations Resolutions.
