The Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus to the State of Israel presents his credentials

The new Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus to the State of Israel, Mr Kornelios Korneliou, presented ον 19 September 2023, his credentials to the President of the State of the State of Israel, Mr. Isaac Herzog, in an official ceremony held at the Presidential Residence in Jerusalem.

In the meeting that followed, the Ambassador conveyed the cordial greetings of the President of the Republic Mr Nikos Christodoulides to the President of Israel, and expressed the commitment of the Cypriot government to further strengthen and deepen the strategic relationship between the two countries, both bilaterally and in the context of regional cooperation, such as the tripartite cooperation with Greece.

He also referred to the recent visit of the Prime Minister of Israel to Cyprus and the prospects for further expanding the energy cooperation between the two countries. Ambassador Korneliou briefed President Herzog on the initiative of President Christodoulides to restart the talks to resolve the Cyprus question, underlining the importance of international support in the efforts to find a solution within the agreed UN framework.

The President of Israel reciprocated the warm greetings of President Christodoulides, underlining the close ties and strategic relations between the two countries, which are an example for the region. He highlighted the impressive increase of tourism and investment from Israel to Cyprus, and made special reference to the cooperation in the energy sector and its potential for further expansion.

He also referred to his visit to Cyprus in March 2022 and expressed his wish for progress in the Cyprus question. Concluding, he assured the Ambassador that he will have the unwavering support of himself and the Israeli Government, in carrying out his mission in Israel.
