Ministry of Foreign Affairs Press release on the renewal of lifting of arms embargo by the United States of America
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomes the decision of the US Department of State to extend the lifting of the arms embargo against Cyprus.
The Republic of Cyprus welcomes both the reaffirmation of the decision and its extension for the new fiscal year (2024), which is based on the "Eastern Mediterranean Security and Energy Partnership Act" legislation enacted by the US Congress in 2019.
The decision by the US Administration demonstrates the continuous enhancement of Cyprus-US relations in the field of security and defense.
The Government of the Republic of Cyprus is committed to deepening its strategic cooperation with the United States, based on the principles of international law, and on the need to build conditions of security and stability in the Eastern Mediterranean.
