Presentation of Credentials of the Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus to HM Queen Margrethe II of Denmark

The Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus to the Kingdom of Denmark, Mr Iacovos Giragosian, presented his credentials to HM Queen Margrethe II of Denmark, at a ceremony held on 9 June 2023 at the summer Royal Palace of Fredensborg. Ambassador Giragosian was welcomed to the Palace by the Lord Chamberlain of Denmark Kim Kristensen.

During a private audience between Queen Margrethe II and the Ambassador, the excellent level of relations between the two countries was reaffirmed. The Ambassador conveyed to the Queen the cordial greetings of the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr Nikos Christodoulides and expressed his readiness and commitment to further strengthen and enhance the ties between the two countries, as well as their cooperation on a bilateral level and in the framework of the European Union.

The Queen of Denmark referred to the historical bond between Denmark and Cyprus, as recorded by the visits of Danish kings as early as in the medieval times. Her Majesty also referred to the 23,000 Danish peacekeepers who served for three decades in the UN peacekeeping force in Cyprus and the legacy they left behind, as well as to the large number of Danish citizens who visit Cyprus every year.
