Τhe Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus in Turkmenistan presented his credentials

The Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus in Turkmenistan, Dr Kypros Giorgallis, presented today at a ceremony held in the capital Ashgabat, his credentials. As per protocol guidelines, the credentials were received on behalf of the President of the country, Mr Serdar Berdimuhamedov, by the President of the National Assembly – Mejlis, Ms. Dunyagozel Gulmanova.

The Ambassador conveyed President Nikos Christodoulides’ warm regards and his readiness and commitment to further strengthen and deepen the relations and cooperation between the two countries, both on a bilateral and European Union level.

Speaking on behalf of the state of Turkmenistan, Ms Gulmanova reciprocated her wishes and cordial greetings to President Christodoulides.  At the same time, she congratulated Dr Giorgallis for his appointment as new Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus to Turkmenistan and wished him a fruitful and successful tour of duty.

During a meeting which followed the official ceremony, the President of the National Assembly briefed Ambassador Giorgallis on Turkmenistan’s foreign and domestic policy priorities. In that regard, special emphasis was attached on Turkmenistan’s policy of neutrality.

On his part, the Ambassador briefed Ms Gulmanova on the latest developments regarding the Cyprus problem, as well as the efforts of the occupation regime to promote its secessionist objectives within the context of the Organisation of Turkic States, in violation of international legality. In addition, Dr Giorgallis suggested that a structured dialogue is being established with regards to our bilateral relations with the aim of advancing cooperation in areas of priority for both countries. The sectors of education, energy and political consultations between the respective Ministries of Foreign Affairs were identified as such.
