17 February 2023 - The Foreign Minister will participate in the EU's Foreign Affairs and General Affairs Councils

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Ioannis Kasoulides, is travelling on Sunday to Brussels, where on Monday, February 20, he will participate in the EU Foreign Affairs Council.

 
The Foreign Ministers' discussions will focus on the developments in Ukraine following the Russian invasion and the assessment of the EU's coordinated response. The main part of this session will take place in the presence of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Mr. Dmytro Kuleba. Afterwards, in the framework of a working lunch, the Ministers will exchange views with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of Moldova, Mr. Nicu Popescu, discussing  the impact of the Russian invasion of Ukraine  on Moldova. Finally, the Council’s proceedings will be completed with an exchange of views on developments in Afghanistan as well as EU policies in the areas of Climate and Energy Diplomacy.


Upon conclusion of the Council, Mr. Kasoulides will participate in a special ceremony at the Permanent Representation of the Republic of Cyprus, organized by the Hellenic Expatriates Committee AHEPA Brussels, during which he will be honoured for his valuable contribution to Cyprus and to Hellenism.


On Tuesday, February 21, Mr. Kasoulides will participate in EU General Affairs Council, which will focus on the preparation of the March European Council. Developments in Ukraine, issues of competitiveness, single market and economy, as well as individual aspects related to the energy sector, are expected to be the main issues on the agenda of the Summit of EU Heads of State and Government.


Mr. Kasoulides will return to Cyprus on Wednesday, February 22.
