Announcement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the situation in Mariupol, Ukraine
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus expresses grave concern over the blockade of Mariupol by Russian forces and the cutting off of water, electricity and food supplies to the city.
We call for an immediate end to the blockade for humanitarian reasons, in order to avoid further complications that directly endanger the lives of the city's inhabitants.
We call and look forward to the establishment and observance of humanitarian corridors, so that there will be a safe and smooth evacuation of the civilian population.
Our concern for the security situation is not limited to the area of Mariupol, but extends to the whole of the country. Nonetheless, the presence of thousands of members of the diaspora as well as civilians in Mariupol naturally attracts our heightened concern and interest.
