3 Mar. 2022 - Foreign Minister Kasoulides heads to Brussels to take part in tomorrow's Extraordinary Foreign Affairs Council of the EU



Press release regarding the departure of the Minister of Foreign Affairs to Brussels for participation in the extraordinary EU Foreign Affairs Council

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Ioannis Kasoulides, travels to Brussels today, where he will participate in the Extraordinary Foreign Affairs Council of the EU that will take place tomorrow, Friday, 4 March 2022.

The Foreign Ministers will be exclusively concerned with the developments in Ukraine following the recent EU decisions imposing restrictive measures against Russia, as well as the further coordinated reaction of the Member States. The talks are expected to focus on, among other things, the immediate de-escalation effort and the protection of the civilian population, as well as initiatives in support of Ukraine.

An informal exchange of views will take place at the Foreign Affairs Council with the participation of NATO Secretary General Mr. Jens Stoltenberg, US Secretary of State Mr. Antony Blinken, UK Secretary of State Mrs. Elizabeth Truss and Canadian Foreign Minister Mrs. Mélanie Joly. The discussion under this item takes place in the context of EU coordination with its strategic partners. In addition, it is noted that the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Mr. Dmytro Kuleba will participate in the informal exchange of views via video conference.

Minister Kasoulides is due to return to Cyprus on Saturday, 5 March 2022.
