Press release regarding the departure of the Minister of Foreign Affairs to Brussels for participation in the Foreign Affairs Council and the General Affairs Council of the EU

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Ioannis Kasoulides, travels tomorrow, Sunday, to Brussels, where he is due to take part in the EU Foreign Affairs Council that will take place on Monday, 24 January 2022.

The Foreign Ministers are expected in their deliberations to focus, inter alia, on the situation in Syria and in Libya, on developments in Eastern Europe, as well as on other current regional and international issues.

Before the start of the Council's session, Minister Kasoulides will host a working breakfast for his EU counterparts in honour of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kuwait, Sheikh Ahmed Nasser Al-Mohammed Al-Sabah. During the breakfast, views will be exchanged on EU-Kuwait relations, as well as on EU-Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), ahead also of the upcoming EU-GCC ministerial meeting in February.

On Tuesday, 25 January, the Foreign Minister will take part in EU General Affairs Council, the agenda of which includes, among other issues, the presentation of the French Presidency priorities, the efforts to strengthen democracy and safeguard electoral processes, the Conference on the Future of Europe, coordination on pandemic management, as well as the latest developments in EU-UK relations.

During his presence in Brussels, Minister Kasoulides will hold contacts and bilateral meetings with the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Mr. Josep Borrell, with the EU Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement, Mr. Olivér Várhelyi. as well as with the Cypriot EU Commissioner for Health and Food Safety, Mrs Stella Kyriakidou.

The Foreign Minister returns to Cyprus on Wednesday, January 26.
