Press release regarding the working visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs to Egypt

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Nikos Christodoulides, travels to Cairo tonight, where he will pay a working visit tomorrow, Saturday, to hold consultations with the Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Sameh Shoukry.

Ministers Christodoulides and Shoukry will initially have a tête-à-tête meeting (at 13.00 Cyprus time) and will then hold consultations in extended format with the participation of official delegations from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the two countries. During the consultations bilateral relations between Egypt and Cyprus will be reviewed and specific ways to further strengthen them will be examined. Issues pertaining to the promotion of regional cooperation and dialogue will also be discussed, while views will be exchanged, inter alia, on the latest developments in the Cyprus problem, in the Eastern Mediterranean and on EU-Egypt relations.

Furthermore, the two Ministers are expected to discuss the latest developments in the region, in light of the ceasefire reached in Israel and Gaza, as a result of the Egyptian mediation effort, as well as the wider efforts and prospects for permanent de-escalation.

Earlier (at 11.00), Mr. Christodoulides will be received by the President of Egypt, Mr. Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, with whom they will have the opportunity to discuss issues related to bilateral relations between Cyprus and Egypt, as well as regional and international issues of common interest.
