Press release regarding the trip of the Minister of Foreign Affairs to Athens for participation in the 2nd Trilateral Meeting of the Foreign Ministers of Cyprus, Greece and Lebanon (15/4)

 

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Nikos Christodoulides, travels to Athens tomorrow, Thursday (15/4), to participate in the 2nd Trilateral Meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Cyprus, Greece and Lebanon, with his counterparts Mr. Nikos Dendias and Charbel Wehbe, respectively.

During the meeting the Ministers will review the progress made in the cooperation of the three countries in the framework of this trilateral mechanism in the period since the first meeting of the Foreign Ministers took place in Beirut in 2019, and are also due to discuss specific areas and directions to further strengthen it, for the benefit of the peoples of the three countries, and in the interest of enhancing stability, security and prosperity in the wider region.

Developments in the Eastern Mediterranean and the wider Middle East will also be reviewed, with an emphasis on the situation in Syria, Libya and increasing migration flows, as well as issues related to relations between the European Union and Lebanon.

Finally, the Ministers will exchange views on dealing with the impact of the pandemic and the cooperation of the three countries in this field.

On the sidelines of the Tripartite Meeting, Mr. Christodoulides will hold separate, tête-à-tête meetings with Messrs. Dendias and Wehbe, during which issues of bilateral interest will be discussed.
